Mama better start on your birth story my dear baby if not I’ll start forgetting the details. To tell the truth, a lot of things leading up to my dear Amni’s birth were beginning to blur in my hazy post partum head.
On Friday, 27th January – I was still doing my nephro ward rounds. It has been a busy week. My specialist Dr Iqbal were joking that he hoped I can still work until my due date – mind you I was already heavily 39 weeks pregnant by this time. My response – no way!!! Seriously tak larat.
So the next day during my antenatal check up – I asked Dr Idora for MC already. She obliged readily as she predicted I’ll be delivering soon as baby’s head already low and I was already having weak contraction.
I was having contractions all weekend right until Monday but it was irregular so I am not convinced that it was labour pain. Went for our usual 1utama outing. Splurge on my favourite food – takoyaki and strawberry cheese cake. Serious dah 2-3 hari mangidam. Tawaf from old wing to new wing dua kali ok.
But on Monday night – I felt uneasy – noticed that I had mucous discharge with slight bloody tinge. In denial, I insisted that the contraction comes and go- probably just Braxton Hicks. But I felt the pain getting closer together that by 1 am it was 5 minutes apart. The pain is starting from lower back rather from suprapubic area like before. That point – it dawned on me. It is time already.
I tried to distract myself – had my shower, surf internet, try to go back to sleep but the lower back pain persisted. I thought it is too early to go to hospital plus it is first baby – usually lambat kan. Wondering whether should we go to the hospital already – I confided with my mom. I thought I wanted to wait until morning but my mom tells me not to risk it – just go.
So I woke up hubby – tell him that we had to go to hospital already. Kelam kabut jugalah. Lucky the hospital bags already in the car so less work. Hubby showered and then, off we go. On the way to hospital – we stopped by McD NKVE for fillet o’ fish (sempat lagi tu) as I was hungry and not keen to go into labour on empty stomach.
At Pantai Medical Center labour room, the nurses did VE – mmm alahai baru 2 cm. I thought they would tell us to go home and wait. But my gynae instructed to get me admitted.
We called our respective parents and started to get ourselves comfortable for the journey ahead. Little did I know by then – it was the start of my long long 24 hour labour.
To be continued…
